A History of the Turkish-Moldavian Relations in Historical and Socio-Cultural Aspects
9th International Balkan Annual Conference (IBAC)
March 20–22, 2019

“A History of the Turkish-Moldavian Relations” invites scholars and researchers primarily from the Balkan and Central European countries to collaborate for a better understanding of the history of Moldavia with a special emphasis on the region’s historical ties with the Turkic tribes, Turkish language, as well as Turkish culture. The organizing committee aims to bring together a wide range of scholars and academics with diverse fields of interest to address the problem. The organizing committee firmly believes that tackling the history of the region with its various aspects is of prime importance, since it had long been a neglected part of the East European history. In order to achieve this goal the committee encourages scholars and researchers from different fields of humanities to contribute with papers on the ancient settlements and trade routes in Moldavia, the early history of the Ottoman-Moldavian political relations, Moldavia as a political and military entity in the early modern history of the Eastern Europe, the impact of the Ottoman-Russian political and military rivalry on the region, as well as the demographic fluctuations of the Gagauzian community in the last centuries. Panels with a distinctive topic to exchange new ideas in a particular field of study by a limited group of contributors are also encouraged. The conference, to be held in Chişinău and Comrat on 20–22 March 2019, will be a joint event supported by Istanbul University and Comrat State University. Papers should be in English. The papers approved by the scientific committee will be published in an edited volume. Proposals for the panels should be made by the chair of the panel. Application forms are to be downloaded at http://ibac.istanbul.edu.tr/. All applications should be submitted by 15 February 2019 to ibac@istanbul.edu.tr. The accepted papers will be announced on 22 February 2019.
